VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP ROBBERIES AND SHOOTING

Van Buren Township Police are asking for the public’s help in the investigation of an armed robbery at about 9 p.m. Sunday at the Pick N Pay liquor store at 9800 Haggerty Road, Haggerty Center.

The suspect is described as a black male, mid-30s, 5’9” tall, weighing about 190 pounds. He had a goatee and was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt with white drawstrings, dark-colored pants and a grey baseball cap with “Detroit” written across the front in orange.

In a news release, VBT Director of Public Safety Gregory Laurain said the suspect walked around the store before selecting a beverage and walking up to the counter. He then produced a handgun, as the clerk opened the register, and demanded cash. He left with about $2,900. The suspect fled the area in an unknown smaller black vehicle.  Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call police at (734) 699-8915.

Armed robbery – Holiday Inn Express
VBT police are investigating an armed robbery that took place Friday at about 10:40 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 46194 N. I-94 Service Drive.
Employees of the motel described the suspect as a white male wearing a black coat with hood and a red hat. He is said to have been armed with a knife and fled with cash taken from the motel.  Officers responding to the motel located a suspect matching the clothing description behind another business in the area. An amount of U.S. currency was discovered on the suspect, matching the description of what was taken in the robbery. Taken into custody was a 29-year-old Van Buren Township resident who later gave a full confession to detectives as to his role in the robbery, police said.
Police are withholding the name of the suspect until his arraignment on robbery charges.

Shots fired at Harbor Club

VBT Police are asking for help in the investigation of shots being fired on Saturday at about 10 p.m. in the area of Harbor Club building #28.
Preliminary investigation reveals that an unknown victim was shot at several times by multiple, unknown assailants while inside a vehicle. Witnesses told police the unknown victim, while attempting to flee, struck a vehicle parked in the parking lot.
The victim then exited and fled on foot prior to police arrival and it is unclear if anyone was injured during the incident. Police say it appears this was not a random incident and the unknown assailants target the victim. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (734) 699-8915.

Unarmed robbery – Shell gas station

VBT Police are investigating the robbery of the Shell gas station on Belleville Road at about 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 2.
An unknown white male entered the gas station telling the clerk to give him all the money. The clerk complied with the suspect’s request and the suspect left the building. The suspect entered a small, dark-colored vehicle in the Burger King parking lot and was last seen traveling north on Belleville Road.

The suspect is described as a white male in his early 20s, wearing a dark-colored, hooded sweatshirt under a dark-colored winter coat. The suspect’s face was completely covered by the hood of his sweatshirt, police said. No weapon was seen or implied.

Armed robbery – Meadows of VB
VBT Police are investigating an armed robbery/home invasion that took place Tuesday, March 1, at about 9:15 p.m. in the 11000 block of Meadows Circle.  The resident reported to police that three black males entered the residence and one was armed with a handgun. A 19-year-old victim was assaulted and sustained a minor injury from being struck in the head with the handgun.
A small amount of drugs and paraphernalia was stolen from the residence. Police say the incident appeared to be a targeted robbery and not a random incident. The victim is familiar with the assailants and is not cooperating with the investigation at this time.
